FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT-IGARTA

A Maltese-Shih Tzu born with the spirit of a guard dog, Franklin was a very special, smart dog. He loved to chew on his “ bone-bone,” take long walks to Astoria Park, socialize with his friends in the neighborhood, eat chicken dinners, visit his grandparents in Long Island and he especially loved to roll around on his back in the snow.

Franklin showed unconditional love and support to his friends and family every day of his life. He made them feel important, loved, understood and whole. Franklin passed away one week shy of his 4th birthday. Although his time here on Earth was short, the people whose lives he touched will forever treasure the wonderful memories he helped create. Franklin was known for happily living every moment to the fullest, always with a smile on his face. Frankie completed my family, and the love he shared will live on in our hearts forever. The time with Franklin was the best four years of my life. He was not just a companion; he was my protector, best friend and canine soul mate. The bond and shared connection between Franklin and me cannot be adequately expressed with words.

In the spirit of Franklin's connectivity I established The Franklin Igarta Foundation, a New York State recognized, 100% volunteer based nonprofit organization. The purpose of The Franklin Igarta Foundation is to provide financial assistance to animal rescue organizations, raise awareness of the benefits of adopting a pet from a no-kill shelter, educate individuals about the prevention of animal cruelty and promote a humane standard of living for pets and animals.

There are many adoptable animals in need of opportunities to give their unconditional love, and unfortunately, millions are euthanized every year. Animals deserve to experience the best kind of care life can offer and to have a loving, forever home. Animals are inherently good, and research has shown that healthy relationships between pet owners and their pets are mutually beneficial.

As a New York City educator with over 14 years experience, I believe it is essential to provide education and engage people in comfortable dialogue to address known causes and effects of animal mistreatment. Fostering solution-focused conversations about how to prevent abuse and neglect by providing a humane standard of living for pets and animals is a core mission of The Franklin Igarta Foundation.

Franklin is still very much a part of our everyday lives. His love will always live in our words and actions. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
